This sounds correct ...
but is it?

Are not all Gifts Free? 
When you buy a Gift for someone you love or appreciate, you give that Gift with no strings attached.  When a Gift is received, the receiver is not expected to report previous loving or hating behavior.  All Gifts are Free, totally without prerequisites or requirements.

A Gift which is dependent upon love for others, is not a Gift, but payment for desired conduct.  Even our law states any string attached to a Gift, indicates it is not a Gift, but a reward for expected behavior: past, present or future.

Likewise with the Gift of Eternal Life. God offers it totally free. Your attempts to do something to receive it, such as loving other, causes God to withhold it. All that is expected is faith (lack of effort) in Jesus Christ as Saviour.
