Objections to Salvation
Saved for Now and Eternity
The Top Objections to Salvation
I am already good without salvation.
I have done much more good than bad.
I am basically a good person.
I have never done the really bad stuff: murder, rape, robbery.
I am not going to decide right now, I will decide later.
If God is loving, he will not send me to hell, or eternal punishment.
I do not think that there is a hell or lake of fire or eternal punishment.
Everyone is a child of God, we are all His children.
God has always known where I am going when I die and there is nothing I can do
about it.
Jesus cannot be the only way to heaven. There are many ways to heaven.

I believe I am already a good person

The Bible says ...
"There is none righteous, no not one."
The Bible - The Book to the Romans - Chapter 3 - Line 10
The Bible says ...
"But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags"
The Bible - The Book of Isaiah - Chapter 64 - Line 6
We are sure that you do some things that you and others would label as "good".
But God's way of deciding whether some action is good or not, is to apply His
standard, which is, was it done purely for others or self or possibly done for
others so that you should some how gain. Those who will be perfectly honest with
themselves, will answer I am not good in the sense that God demands.

I believe I have done more good than bad

Salvation or the New Birth has nothing to do with being good nor even being more
good than bad, nor avoiding being bad. This is because there is no good in us what-so-ever
and according to God's measurement, all of us are altogether sinful.
See previous
Objection. Salvation or the New Birth has everything to do with believing or faith.
"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God
must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek
him."
The Bible - The Book to the Hebrews - Chapter 11 - Line 6
To whom should our belief be placed?
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."
The Bible - The Acts of the Apostles - Chapter 16 - Line 31
Notice that being good or the avoidance of bad is never mentioned. Placing all
faith in Jesus Christ is the means to be saved. This is not simply believing
that Jesus is who He says that He is, but putting action to your faith by taking
Jesus as your Personal Saviour from all your sin.
Of course the Bible frequently mentions adherence to the 10 Commandments. But
the keeping of them is not the criteria for entering Heaven, but is expected
conduct after Salvation.
Another place, and there are many more, which indicates that belief is the
criteria for Salvation would be ...
"we are ... of them that believe to the saving of the soul"
The Bible - The Book to the Hebrews - Chapter 10 - Line 39

I have never murdered or raped anyone

We understand that you feel you have never committed the so called "Big
Sins", and thus should be allowed to enter Heaven. We should look at what
the Bible says about the "Big Sins".
"the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and
whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part
in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death"
The Bible - The Book of the Revelation - Chapter 21 - Line 8
Notice that the fearful, unbelieving, abominable, murders, whoremongers,
sorcerers (dealers in pharmaceuticals of sin, drugs),
idolaters (worshipers of idols) and all liars will be
assigned to the Lake of Fire. Again, notice, that a liar is just as bad as a
murderer and receives the same punishment. Since all of us are liars, having
lied at least once, we all deserve the Lake of Fire. But the placing of our
faith (not just believing in Jesus, but actually have called on
Jesus as Saviour, Romans 10:13 "whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord,
shall be saved.") is the one single requirement for Salvation.

I am not going to decide right now
Allow us to give some very good advice. If there is a choice between good
and bad, always choose to do good and do not put it off. Besides, why would
reasonable people stay in a cross-roads situation between good and bad. So often
we do bad on the spur of the moment, without thinking or through temptation. But
when an occasion arrives and an intelligent person sees the opportunity is
within his or her power to do the "right thing", he or she must act immediately
and appropriately.
"To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts"
The Bible - The Book to the Hebrews - Chapter 4 - Line 7
The context of the above verse is to not put off "belief", but exercise it
today. The reason is this ... when the opportunity to place our faith in Jesus
Christ as our Saviour for salvation comes our way, it is sent by God. Rejection
of God's appeal hardens the heart toward God. If there is a next time (there is
never a guarantee that there will ever be a next time), God's appeal may be
appear a little weaker to a hardened heart and the desire to be saved is more
easily put-off again.
In other words ...
"in the day of salvation have I succored (help, aided, comforted)
thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation"
The Bible - The Book of II Corinthians - Chapter 6 - Line 2
There is no better time than "Today".

A loving God would never send me to hell

God is so often misunderstood in this area.
It is true, God is loving. The Bible says that "God is love". He is the
very essence of love in every manner. But God is not merely love, He is also
just. He is, like love, the very essence of justice in every manner.
"they have sinned against the LORD, the habitation of justice"
The Bible - The Book of Jeremiah - Chapter 50 - Line 7
God is the very home or habitation of justice.
In order for love and justice to serve simultaneously, they must give way to
each other. Since God is all love and all just, neither is more important than the other.
God's love is for every single soul. But if that soul be sinful, and all are,
God's justice demands payment. God being all love has paid for all sin in the
person of Jesus Christ, His Son. When Jesus died and rose from the dead He
presented the payment for all sin in the form of His blood and God being all
just was
satisfied. Now, Jesus as Saviour, demands our faith to be exercised in belief
and trust in Him, in order to receive our part of His justice payment, His blood
forgiveness. This is how each of us arrives at salvation, the new birth, born
again a new person totally forgiven of all sin, thereby escaping God's total justice,
and allowing to be included in God's total love.
In the person of God ...
"Mercy and truth are met together"
The Bible - The Book of Psalms - Chapter 85 - Line 10
God alone is the personage of mercy (God's forgiving love) and truth (God's
righteous justice). There can be no mercy without a forgiving love. There can be
no truth without a righteous justice.
Finally, do not place all your faith in God's love, but place your faith in
God's love and justice by trusting in the love of God as well as the satisfied
justice of God in the person of Jesus Christ.
Please re-read the previous paragraphs several times and let them sink into your
reasoning. The truth is plain, but the terminology may be difficult at first.

I do not believe in hell or the lake of fire
Most do not believe in hell or the lake of fire because these sound so
contrary to a loving God. But they forget or are ignore of the justice of God. For more
on this see the objection, "A loving God would never send me to hell".
The existence of of a real hell is declared over and over again in the Bible.
Many have taught that the references to hell in the Bible are
allegorical
{
A representation or to describe symbolically
}
or
pictorial
{
to describe graphically or illustrated in a visual manner
}
. They try to make hell or the lake of fire seem as if they are exaggerated punishments, not real. When in fact the Bible clearly uses no allegorical
prose when speaking of hell.
Also, they try to make hell or hades into a burning garbage dump outside of Jerusalem, when the Bible is
acturally using allegorical prose in those instances for comparison sake. If this is confusing, you can easily see how and why their attempts to remove hell and the lake of fire from existence
is not accepted by scholars' over the last 2000 years.
Those who do not want to deal with hell, discount its existence, just as those who do not want to deal with God, discount His existence.

We are all the children of God
Not everyone is a child of God.
"For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus."
The Bible - The Book to the Galatians - Chapter 3 - Line 26
Notice how inclusion into the family of God in this statement is limited by "faith in Christ Jesus".
Only those who have come to Jesus Christ by faith are children of God.
This is not simple acknowledgment of Jesus Christ, but the faith in Him that
brings on the New Birth, Born Again. (Click
Here! to see that the New Birth is about.)
A child of God is one who has been Born Again into the family of God as depicted
in the following verse.
"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of
God, even to them that believe on his name"
The Bible - Book of the Gospel of John - Chapter 1 - Line 12
"Received Him" is accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour from your sin.
Those that have received Jesus as Saviour are given sonship in the family of
God. Those who have not been Born Again into the family of God are obviously not
a child of God.
We realize that this is not an "inclusive" statement and to many is not
"politically correct". We also realize that even most people are not included.
But, again the Bible is very meticulous in stating that most will not be saved,
will not be part of the family of God.
"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way,
that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because
strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few
there be that find it."
The Bible - Book of the Gospel of Matthew
Chapter 7 - Lines 13, 14
Faith in Jesus Christ is the narrow way that leads to an eternal life in Heaven
as a child of God and "few" will experience it. The broad way is the path
of "many" that leads to eternal destruction in the lake of fire.

I have already done that and it did not work

Amazingly, I can identify with you. I, too, prayed and asked the Lord to save me
and was not saved. No new birth. But I realized that I was not sincere in my
prayer. I simply listen in a hollow manner to see what it was all about. I did
not set out to be insincere because I did not know enough about salvation to
desire it in a sincere manner. After hearing how to be saved I thought it
incredulous that a person could be saved from all sin, because I knew that I
would be involved in sin very soon afterwards. I simply had no understanding.
Upon later reflection, I knew if it was true that a person could be forever
forgiven and live eternally with a loving God that I wanted that. A week later I
restated my interest in salvation and was led through the plan of salvation
where upon I called on Jesus Christ as my very own personal Saviour. I knew I
was Born Again, because I immediately received a changed heart , the New Birth,
from the Lord. I did not even know I was supposed to receive a changed
heart. I, like everyone else who is changed by God, received a desire to tell
others about Jesus and how he saved me and could save them. This is the proof of
the New Birth.
Our advice to you is to Click Here!
and go through the plan of salvation once more with a sincere heart to place
all your faith in Jesus Christ and be forever forgiven.

Doesn't God already know where I am going?
The plain and simple answer is Yes! He does know where you are going. He also loves you and has sent His Son to die the death you deserved because of your sin.
"But God commendeth (approves its exhibition, shows)
his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
The Bible - Book to the Romans - Chapter 5 - Line 8
God is also sadden and angry that you have neglected to take His Son as your
Saviour from sin. God has given Himself in the person of Jesus Christ for your
explicit salvation, yet you continue to ignore this proffer of love and
compassion and attempt to rely on a statement about what God knows. God indeed
knows every thing and everything about you. Put aside excuses and put on faith
in Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour from all your sin.

I doubt that Jesus is the only way to Heaven.

Jesus clearly stats of Himself ...
"I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh
unto the Father, but by me."
The Bible - Book of the Gospel of John - Chapter 14 - Line 6
Jesus is the only way to God the Father. He is not the only way for Christians,
but is the only way, period.
What other person came from Heaven to die in your place to forever forgive all
your sins?
What other person have you called on as Saviour from sin and received the
changed life? We are not talking about changes you made. There is no proof in
your changes. But we are talking about a change that God made in you.
What other person does God claim as His Son. Conceived by Him in the body of a
young virgin girl?
What other person does God give charge of all who are to be saved?
What other person has an empty tomb, risen from the grave to intercede for the
saints at the right hand of God.
What other person ... You fill in the blanks with Buddha, Confucius, Mohammed,
Pope, etc.
Do any of them even lay claim to these divine accomplishements?
The difference is when anyone of us sincerely calls on Jesus as our personal
Saviour that we are changed in an instant. Again, not a change we made or even
expected, but one that God made in us.
Ask if you will the adherents of other religions, they will make no claims ...
except that of wisdom, that is not always wise
except that of tradition, that was once not in existence
except that of miracles, that do not give God the credit
except that of love, that does not give their life, even for a single person.
except ...
